Himalayan Tahr, Nepal

We didn’t see many animals when trekking in the Khumbu.  There were a few domesticated cows at lower altitudes, and at higher altitudes yaks were more common and used mostly as beasts of burden.  We made only one wildlife spotting, that being of Himalayan tahr.

Himalayan Tahr

Tahr are large wild goats that lives on the mountain slopes and in forests of the Himalayas. They usually are found in sizeable groups grazing on the hills.  They have thick coats, very needed in this cold world.  They weren’t too far away from us and it was fun watching them hop around on the ledges of this steep slope.
