The revival of domestic air travel in the U.S. hit another high point over the Thanksgiving holiday, just as worries began to grow about the spread of a new Covid variant. The big day was Sunday, when TSA cleared 2,451,300 passengers, twice as many as last year and 85% of 2019’s record-breaking total.
TSA’s figures for the 10-day period starting Nov. 19 totaled 20.9 million passengers, against only 9.5 million last year and 23.5 million in 2019. The Sunday after Thanksgiving is always the heaviest, as people who left town over a period of several days all head home to work and school. The Thanksgiving rush has been the heaviest air travel since the pandemic began.
Fortunately for those traveling, there were no serious weather-related problems anywhere in the country, so no pile-up of delayed or canceled flights to disrupt holiday spirit.
