I recall when writing postcards was something you HAD to do while on vacation. In fact, I used to print out a sheet of address labels to save time when it came to mailing postcards to friends and family. It took an effort and usually hours of time to buy the cards and stamps, write the messages, and mail them. But friends would have a small, personalized souvenir from you.
With the advent of email, instagram and other social media, the need for sharing your trips by postcards has largely disappeared. One quick photo or online post may be viewed by thousands. Still, like many, I have nostalgia for old postcards and enjoy looking at them in antique shops or friends’ collections. I probably even own a few….
We came across this interesting piece of public art while rambling around downtown Orlando. A piece made to resemble a vintage 12 card gift strip from a century ago. A classy concept, I thought.
