Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, Kauai

The Episcopal Church in Hawaii began in 1862, when King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma invited the Church of England to Hawaii.   Services in Kilauea started around 1888.  The current church building was constructed in the 1930s.

This charming small chapel was constructed of lava stone donated by the Kilauea Sugar Company, on land the company also provided. The stained-glass windows were shipped from England in 1935.  The building has suffered some hurricane damage, which has been restored.  Regular Sunday worship services are held in the chapel, and so are frequent weddings.
