Not yet ready for customers, but afloat under its own power, Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas left the French shipyard where it was built, headed for Marseille where the final fittings will be installed.
Wonder is bigger, by only a little, than its fellow Oasis-class ships, and has room for just under 7,000 passengers and more than 2,000 crewmembers. To put a perspective on that, the average population size of U.S. towns and cities is 6,200.
The ship’s first paying voyage will be a cruise from Fort Lauderdale in March, which will be its home port for the spring, followed by a summer of Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona and Civitavecchia. It was originally scheduled to be based in China but the pandemic has changed or postponed that plan.
