I’ve begun exploring the Idaho panhandle in some detail as it’s the place I now call home. At the advice of a friend, my wife and I made our way to Sandpoint and enjoyed a late lunch at Panhandler Pies restaurant and bakery. The place is only open for breakfast and lunch, and we got there shortly before closing.
Its decor is typical of that found in the region — lots of natural wood. It has a fairly broad menu, but most important is that it has PIES! All types of pies, as you can see from the menu. By the way, I happen to love pie!
My wife had a soup and sandwich combo, which was excellent; I decided to go with an apple cinnamon bun which was gigantic, very filling and delicious. It was among the best cinnamon buns I’ve ever had! Service was great, the staff experienced and friendly.
We took a whole blueberry pie home with us, and it was terrific. Definitely will be back there soon, as should you if you’re in the area.’
I have been enjoying Dr Fumblefinger’s recent posts on the Idaho panhandle. I visited it 5 years ago staying at the very comfortable Lodge at Sandpoint hotel, beside Lake Pend Oreille. Travelling from Canada, the road passes Bonner’s Ferry, where my wife assures me there is a superb quilt shop. We also came across a bald eagle just beside the road about half a mile north of the border crossing.
Thank you for your comment and pictures, Rod. We have terrific sunsets in the panhandle, and I see bald eagles flying around almost every day. When things normalize, you’ll need to leave your cozy home in England and come visit my wife and I in our new abode.
