Amtrak is making like an airline with its big order for new trains: More Wi-Fi, and individual reclining seats. And just like an airline, the seats are skinnier.
The new cars, which Amtrak calls its ‘Venture’ fleet, will replace up to 40% of Amtrak’s previous fleet, including its larges area, the Northeast. Amtrak’s CEO Bill Flynn says the new cars will “reshape the future of rail travel.”
The Venture cars are being built by Siemens Mobility at a U.S. factory and are similar to cars that have just recently gone into service in regional service in the upper Midwest. The order includes as many as 83 trainsets, to be delivered starting next year.
