JetBlue goes even bigger on the A220

JetBlue, which was one of the first U.S. airlines to make a serious commitment to Airbus’s passenger-popular A220 has now ordered even more, partly to speed up retirement of Embraer E190s, and partly for fleet expansion.

It has just exercised 30 options it held on A220-300s, bringing the total firm order to 100, with deliveries running continually through late 2025. JetBlue flies the plane, which it already has eight of, in a 140-seat configuration with 30 seats in ‘Even More Room’ 35-inch pitch while the rest have 32″.

For JetBlue, the A220 opens the possibility of more long-distance but ‘thin’ routes where a larger plane would not work economically and which are beyond range in some cases for the E190. Other U.S. airlines with major A220 commitments include Delta, and newcomer Breeze, whose fleet will be largely A220s.
