The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is planning a new exhibit that focuses on how innovations in space technology have changed daily lives on Earth to complement its exhibits of the technology of space exploration.
The new exhibit, Living in the Space Age, recently got $25 million in support from Raytheon Corporation, which has made a lot of that technology over the years, from rockets to microwave ovens. The exhibit, which will occupy one of the museum’s three main halls, will open in 2025, and bear Raytheon’s name.
The museum is presently closed for renovations and restructuring but is scheduled to re-open this fall. In the meantime, its satellite site at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy center near Dulles Airport in Virginia is open.
