May is Museum Month in Toronto, and the city is celebrating with an unusual gift: Permanent free admission to Toronto History Museums, a collection of ten important sites owned by the city.
The move, which the city says will “ensure equitable access to museum sites and provide everyone an opportunity to participate in cultural heritage and spaces,” kicks off the city’s summer tourism season as well.
The ten venues are intended to “collect, research, exhibit and enhance the understanding of the city’s diverse stories through engaging and exciting experiences.” They include the Fort York National Historic site, the Spadina House museum, Todmorden Mills, Zion Schoolhouse, The Gallery and Scarborough Museum.
