Expedia is planning to merge its four existing loyalty programs into a single program called One Key that will also include rewards for brands that currently don’t have programs.
Set to take effect in 2023, with details to come, it will merge Orbucks from Orbitz, Expedia Rewards, Hotels.com Rewards and eBookers Bonus+, allowing members of all the current programs to earn and burn points across the family of products. Rewards will also be extended to Expedia brands with no current program, including VRBO and Travelocity.
The devil may be in the details, though. Past the obvious plus of being able to accumulate points that can be used at any of the sites, there are possible minuses for members of some programs if Expedia drops benefits such as Hotels.com’s free night after ten paid in favor of a straight points approach
