Workers at Las Vegas’s Cosmopolitan resort got a big surprise at a recent employee award and appreciation event: a $5000 bonus for each of the 5,400 employees.
Up to the moment of the announcement that everyone was getting a check, staff members believed that a few had been selected. The total of the bonus, according to Blackstone, the investment fund that owns the hotel, is around $27 million.
The head of the hotel operation thanked the employees for staying on the job at the 3,000 room hotel and creating “a youthful, exuberant brand.” It was also a sort of farewell, because Blackstone is completing a deal to sell the Cosmo operation to another chain, MGM Resorts.
