Some areas of Yellowstone National Park, closed by heavy rains and flooding last week, will re-open tomorrow, but the Park;s Northern Loop area will remain closed with no re-opening date.
The areas that will re-open tomorrow will have new restrictions on entry to avoid overcrowding resulting from other areas being closed. Entry will be determined by vehicle license plates, with plates ending in odd numbers admitted on odd-numbered days and even plates on even days. Visitors with overnight camping or hotel reservations won’t be subject to the limit.
The flooding, which resulted in evacuation of 10,000 visitors, left a trail of damage in the northern areas that will take months or more of work to restore roads and facilities. The quick re-opening of other areas will relieve economic losses for at least some of the businesses that depend on park visitors.
