AAA: July 4 road trips to set record

It’s not just air travel that’s bouncing back from the worst of the pandemic; according to the American Automobile Association it’s likely that holiday road trips will be the first to rise above pre-pandemic levels, with record numbers predicted for the 4th of July holiday despite astronomical gas prices.

AAA predicts an all-time record of 42 million people hitting the road for the holidays; that’s nearly 8% of the U.S. population. AAA VP Paula Twidal said that “Earlier this year, we started seeing the demand for travel increase and it’s not tapering off. People are ready for a break and despite things costing more, they are finding ways to still take that much needed vacation.”

There’s also an overall prediction of 47.9 million people traveling over the holiday, including 3.55 million by air and 2.42 million on buses, trains and cruise ships.
