Flaming Gorge Reservoir extends 91 miles in length, its water level at just over 6000 ft above sea level. The reservoir mostly lies in Wyoming but its western most portion extends into Utah. This post shows some views of the Utah portion.
The Gorge was named by famed river explorer John Wesley Powell in 1869, when he and his team explored the Green and Colorado Rivers in small wooden boats. Powell named the Flaming Gorge after he saw the setting sun reflect off its red rocks.
Damming of the Green River created this massive water reservoir, and with it came lots of recreational opportunity like boating, fishing, and houseboating.
It’s a beautiful part of America!
Wow…beautiful! Great photos!
