Paris is ready for the beach again with the opening last Saturday of the 21st season of its artificial beaches, set up for a six-week run along the Seine and the Bassin de la Villette.
As usual, it’s not just the truckloads of sand piled up along the river, in front of the Hotel de la Ville and the Bassin; it’s also an extensive list of games and activities for all ages, including sports events, games, lifesaving lessons and gymnastics.
Also scheduled are library days with bookmobiles, readings by authors and a film festival.

Though not as elaborate as it sounds now, I remember Paris Plages being a thing when I was there in ’66. Though I wasn’t interested, my best friend was a devotee, probably because she’s English & we know how the British can be when it comes to sun & sand.
