My husband and I were pleased to find a killdeer nest in our backyard. Killdeers are birds that lay their eggs on the ground, often in rocks. Part of our property is covered with gravel, and the nest was well camouflaged, as you can see below.

When we approached the nest, the mother tried to draw us away by pretending that her wing is injured.
