Snake River, Eastern Idaho

The Snake River is one of the great rivers of the American West, flowing more than a thousand miles.  It originates in western Wyoming before winding its way across Idaho.  In Idaho’s western flanks, the Snake runs through Hells Canyon, the deepest in the United States — even deeper than the Grand Canyon.  The Snake enters southern Washington state and merges with the Columbia River before flowing to the Pacific Ocean.

These photos were taken in eastern Idaho, not far from Wyoming.  The Snake River is near the beginning of its journey west and is already a large and beautiful river.
