After years of stories about lengthening lines and delays at checkpoints, TSA has good news for travelers: its new CAT system that uses one piece of ID to check ID, boarding pass and status has grown to 1,600 units in 175 U.S. airports.
The system, which incidentally operates without contact, eliminates the need for agents to check ID and boarding pass or Trusted Traveler status when entering security lanes. No digging out paper boarding pass, no trying to get the barcode open on the phone. Scan the ID, and the system retrieves the rest.
The number of airports using the system has doubled in the past year and will continue to grow. On a crowded day, TSA estimates, travelers might save as much as 15 minutes of line time.
