The Art of Camouflage—Mantis

I spotted this praying mantis in our garden recently. I almost missed it as it was sitting perfectly still in a bed of strawberry plants.

3-thumbnailThey are insect eaters and help deal with pesty bugs, so he was very welcome.  Praying mantises are uncommon in my experience—I only see one maybe every four or five years. But given how well they blend in, I’m sure I’ve missed some.
