Hertz has just announced its third major deal to bulk up its fleet with electric cars, signing a deal with GM that will bring 175,000 GM electrics to Hertz across size and price classes. The cars will be delivered over the next five years, beginning early next year.
Like its deal last fall for 100,000 Teslas and its spring deal adding another Tesla model, both Hertz and the carmakers will get a big boost, both in meeting a growing consumer demand and in lowering corporate emission profiles, and giving the automakers a big boost with guaranteed scale.
The GM models range from the smallish Chevrolet Bolt EV through larger models from Buick, Cadillac and GMC, as well as some of GM’s new BrightDrop cargo vans. Hertz says its goal is to have 25% electric vehicles by the end of 2024.
