Swedish skiiers are getting a new way to get to Austrian ski resorts: An overnight sleeper that leaves Malmo on Thursday afternoons at 2:55 pm and arrives in Innsbruck, Austria 22 hours later.
The once-a-week train will run through next March, with its first Austrian stop in Salzburg at 9:15 am. The route takes it through three Danish stops as well, along with stops at Hamburg and Munich. There are nine stops in Austria, at ski resort towns or spots with bus connections to the slopes.
Tickets start at about €90 for adult one-way, but have sharp discounts for groups booking together: Second adult pays 50% and children under 16 are 20%.
There are also couchettes available at various rates and there’s a check-in service for skis for about €22 so you don’t have to sleep with your equipment.
The return train heads north at 5 pm on Fridays, leaving about five full days for skiing.
The new route is one of the longest sleeper routes in Europe.
