Ireland, which has created and expanded a number of Greenway trails over the past few years, has now opened three new Blueways, a watery equivalent of the trails built on old rail lines.
The three Blueways use canals, rivers, lakes and potentially coasts for engaging with nature and heritage while enjoying being on the water in canoes, kayaks or on paddleboards. Because of the importance of waterways as society and industry developed over the centuries, all the Blueways are well-stocked with historic towns and attractions.
