Frommer ‘Best Places’ broadens the view

There’s a new list of 15 ‘Best Places’ for 2023 from Frommers.com, one of the most-used sources of travel advice, and for the first time in a couple of years the list has gone worldwide as post-pandemic travel grows.

The list is compiled from a poll of the authors and editors who created the Frommer guidebooks, asking them to nominate destinations for the coming year, including places that will be unusually affordable, or finally accessible in 2023, or are having big anniversaries or special events.

On the list are such places as the Virgin Islands, which have now largely recovered from pre-pandemic storm damage; Japan, which only recently re-opened to visitors; Macon, Georgia which is celebrating a bicentenary and a rich musical heritage, and the newly-designated Camp Hale–Continental Divide National Monument, Colorado, west of Denver. The Army’s 10th Mountain Division trained ski troops there during World War II, and after the war it became one of the key areas for the growth of American skiing, including the Vail and Aspen areas.
