Dutch tourism at record pace, but…

Tourism in the Netherlands is outpacing the record numbers set in 2019, based on third-quarter statistics, but the rise is being driven more by domestic tourism than by international visitors, according to the statistics agency CBS.

Some 14.6 million people booked at least one night at a Dutch hotel, campsite or holiday park during the quarter, a jump of 15% over last year, when many restrictions were still in place, and a rise of 4% over 2019’s number. Of the 14.6 million, 9.2 million were Dutch.

Still, a steady rise of international visits is noted; this year’s third quarter figure of 5.4 million foreigners was double the 2021 figure. Visits from the UK rose seven-fold over last year, with big jumps also from Australia and New Zealand, whose residents were under travel restrictions at home until recently.
