Having originally booked the trip in 2019 (for travel in 2020), we finally managed to get back to Namibia this September.
The photo was taken just outside the Dolomite Rest Camp in the far western corner of Etosha National Park. When we were getting ready for breakfast, we heard several loud bellows. My wife immediately said ‘lions’, but I put it down to a zebra. The camp, after all, was unfenced—so obviously there would be no lions in the area…
We were watching this pair for quite a while. What amazed us was how close their potential prey ventured to the lions.
The other animals could probably tell that they were not in hunting mode at the time.
We did not hear anything, incidentally, about other guests inexplicably not turning up for breakfast.
