Kodiak is a beautiful place. It’s an island so most people access it by plane (although there are ferries and boat services also available). There’s regular Boeing 737 jet service to the island several times a day, but Kodiak provides a thriving business for Bush (sea) planes.
There are several companies that serve various lodges and remote villages on an as needed basis. One of these is Andrew Airways, which is the company we used to travel from Kodiak to our bear-viewing lodge near Katmai National Park. I loved how they decorated their vans!
Bush pilots were largely responsible for the exploration and development of much of Alaska in the early 20th century. It’s good to see that they still play an important role in Alaska to this day.
