We were sitting at a table on the terrace of Café Landtmann when this beautiful vintage Mercedes pulled up directly opposite. It was a very nice, warm day – ideal for driving around with the top down.
Below are a couple of additional shots of the car – according to the badge on the rear a Model 170S – including a look at its interior.
Café Landtmann is on Vienna’s Ringstrasse, right next to the Burgtheater and diagonally opposite the Rathaus. It is not exactly cheap, but they serve nice coffee and cakes in very pleasant surroundings—even if you are sitting on the terrace, you should take a look at the fabulous rooms inside!
The café has been there since October 1873, i.e. its history goes back almost 150 years. The Mercedes is ‘only’ around half that age—the 170S, in the cabriolet version, was manufactured from 1949 to 1951.
I would love to have one. However, I don’t think I could afford the upkeep – it really looked immaculate. And in Wales I would not have all that many opportunities to fold the roof back. 🙂
Nice ride, Professor! You would look good in that car.
