Federal funding, including funds from last year’s infrastructure bill, will help fuel a construction boom this year for U.S. airports, with some major expansion and renovation projects already underway. The funds provide several billion a year for projects.
While the FAA will soon announce which airports will get how much, some projects are already underway; some of them may receive additional funding in the new round.
Among the major airports that are expanding or rebuilding are Chicago O’Hare with a $7.1 billion rebuilding plan; Seattle-Tacoma which is building more gates and renovating space and New York’s JFK, which is already at work on a major renovation and terminal replacement project.
Smaller airports are also planning work, including Providence, Santa Fe and Des Moines, Iowa and Sacramento.
