Think of Swiss cows and your mind turns to Alpine meadows, perhaps with edelweiss poking up through the grass. But not on a local commuter train.
Except this one, on Sunday evening, which boarded a Thurbo regional train at St. Fiden in St Gallen canton and rode a few stops to Muolen.
The cow was not alone, of course; it was accompanied by a group of men, said by one Swiss radio station to be drunk. The men were equipped with a bucket of straw as well as brooms and a bucket, presumably in case the cow couldn’t fit the train’s lavatory.
A Swiss police spokesman told press that the incident had been reported, but they were advised not to intervene. A railroad spokesman added that “We hope at least that there was a valid ticket,” and that he hoped the cow “was able to enjoy the ride on our train.”
