Avelo Airlines, which started service from New Haven, Connecticut’s Tweed Airport in late 2021 has now flown over a million passengers into and out of the airport, which in 2019 had only 50,000 passengers and in its best year had about 60,000.
Avelo, one of the two big low-cost airline startups of 2021, has made Tweed its Northeast hub, with flights to Chicago, Raleigh-Durham, Myrtle Beach, Charleston and six cities in Florida.
The airline celebrated its million-passenger status Friday, with airline CEO Andrew Levy popping on board a Florida-bound flight to gift each passenger a free round-trip ticket for a future flight.
