In 2010, the first Santurce es Ley (Santurce is the Law) festival was help. Its goal was to start a movement to revitalize a neighborhood of San Juan that had become abandoned and run down. One part of the festival was an invitation to artists to create murals in the area of Calle Cerra, in the center of the neighborhood. Over the past thirteen years, some of the murals have changed, but it’s always worth a trip to visit when in San Juan.

First mural wearing #21 must be my baseball hero, Roberto Clemente. I would always enjoy seeing him play with my hometown Pittsburgh Pirates. He was the first Caribbean and the first Latin-American player to be enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame after his tragic death when flying relief supplies to Nicaragua after an earthquake. His professional baseball career began at age 18 when he accepted a contract with Cangrejeros de Santurce (“Crabbers”), of the Puerto Rican Professional Baseball League (LBPPR).
All of that is true. He was also my wife’s “primo”
