If the idea of a big-ship cruise sets your heart afloat but you really yearn for the golden days of rail travel, Royal Caribbean has a deal for you. Starting next year on its new Utopia of the Seas, you’ll be able to eat in a luxury shipboard railroad dining car with virtual scenery at the windows as your meal heads on down the line.
Details are incomplete, but the concept includes a ‘station’ that is a bar, with two dining cars attached. The menu items offered at a particular meal will be keyed to the scenery the ‘train’ is ‘passing’ at the time.
The restaurant, which doesn’t have a name yet, will be in the area where other ships of the same class have a sushi restaurant.
