In a move that puts the U.S. in line with most other major travel destinations and could spark a big increase in summer visits, the U.S. will no longer require overseas visitors to show proof of Covid vaccination.
The move, which takes effect May 12, ends an 18-month period since the U.S. began accepting overseas visitors again in November 2021. The dropping of the rule coincides with the official end of the U.S. Covid emergency, along with many other rules and programs.
A White House statement explained that “While vaccination remains one of the most important tools in advancing the health and safety of employees and promoting the efficiency of workplaces, we are now in a different phase of our response when these measures are no longer necessary.”
Vaccine requirements will also be lifted for federal employees and contractors.
