Evora, in south-central Portugal, is a pretty but ancient city which was once a Roman fortification. Many Roman ruins persist around Evora.
The central portion of the city is walled, and these photos are of some of the buildings within the wall. These images were taken from a balcony of the Church of St. Francis. The distant towers of the main cathedral can be seen in the photo below.
I remember having a fantastic ‘duck rice’ here. Essentially rice with pulled duck and chorizo which is then baked in the oven with cheese on top. I managed to get the recipe from a colleague in Porto some years ago and it has been a family favourite ever since.
