If Paris is in your plans, the next year or so would be a good time to visit the Pompidou Center, the massive and uniquely designed modern art museum. After that, it will be five years before the museum reopens after a massive renovation and remodeling. Reopening is set for 2030.
Designed by star architects Richard Rodgers of the UK and Renzo Piano of Italy, the building opened in 1977, with its distinctive ‘inside-out’ look that makes many visitors initially think it’s under construction, as now it will be again. The building has suffered serious wear and tour over the past decades.
Among the work to be done at a cost of €262 million are updates for fire safety, disability access and general repairs. Inside, gallery spaces will be reworked, new areas will be installed for younger visitors and its hugely popular public library will be expanded.
