One of the prettiest scenes we encountered during our last road trip through Utah was at Black Dragon Canyon Viewpoint. It had rained in nearby Green River the night before and at this altitude we were treated to a dusting of fresh snow over the rugged rock formations.
There is a nearby hiking trail that extends into the desert of the San Rafael swell. Within Black Dragon Wash is a red pictograph panel, accompanied by petroglyphs. The pictograph is reminiscent of a dragon, hence the name.
Juniper trees contrast with the Navajo Sandstone walls here at eastern edge of the San Rafael Swell.
