In a move that gives new meaning to ‘advance booking,’ SAS is selling tickets starting Friday for its maiden electrict-aircraft flights, scheduled for 2028 on a plane that’s not yet flown.
It’s a bold move by the financially-troubled airline to claim the first scheduled airline flight by an electric plane… or at least the first tickets sold for one. The price for the flights, whose routes have not yet been determined, is 1,946 kronor, or about $187. The price is based on the airline’s founding year. Payment for reserved tickets is deferred to 30 days before take-off
There will be 30 seats available on each flight, and flights will be operated by Heart Aeropace’s ES-30 aircraft, which has yet to enter production and testing. It is designed to fly about 200 km with a full load, or 500 km by replacing five passengers with extra hydrogen turbogenerators.
