Even more new hotel brands coming

Marriott, one of the largest chain hotel operations, is launching a new hotel brand, aimed at a mid-tier long-stay audience similar to the one that Hyatt just launched a new brand—Hyatt Studios—to serve. Hilton is also entering the same arena; neither Hilton nor Marriott has decided on a name yet.

Once upon a time, there were hotels, and each had a name. Then there were chains of hotels; the names were fairly familiar—Hilton, Holiday Inn, Statler, Sheraton and more. And then, in mergers and new launches came the big operations, each with a fleet of brands.

Now, Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Accor, IHG, Wyndham and more have so many brand names serving market segments from economy to luxury, from short-term basic to amenity-rich extended stay and resorts that it’s almost impossible to keep track (the new brand is Marriott’s 32nd). If you’re curious, here’s a brand list for some of the major chains.
