During our recent stay in Lisbon, we chose a hotel near the Oriente Station (Estação Do Oriente), in the Parque Das Nações neighborhood of northeastern Lisbon. This area was developed in the 1980s for World Expo ’98, so it is filled with modern architecture, an example being the interesting design of the Oriente Station. It was a convenient place to stay because of good access to public transportation, lots of tasty restaurants, and good shopping choices.
The Oriente station was designed by famed Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. It provides a convenient gateway for getting around Lisbon and the rest of Portugal. It’s a major train station, connecting with Porto and other major Portuguese and international cities. Oriente station is also a major bus hub, with routes all across Portugal and Europe. It’s located on the city’s Metro line, only a few stops from Lisbon’s international airport, so it’s convenient to take the metro from the airport to the Oriente station.
For us it was just a few minutes’ walk from the station to our hotel. Most of the photos in this blog were taken from our hotel window.

The Oriente station is directly across the street from the Vasco da Gama shopping mall.
