Viking, one of the leaders in the European river cruise market, plans to keep sailing through the winter instead of shutting down as usual from late December through March.
Until now, only one smaller line, Viva, has sailed year-round. Most end their seasons after December Christmas-market cruises. Viking is also adding 20 extra sailings for the Christmas market season as well, half on the Rhine and half on the Danube.
The winter itinerary will follow one of Viking’s most popular routes, the Rhine between Amsterdam and Basel, with port stops at Arnhem, Cologne,, Mainz, Heidelberg, Strasbourg and Breisach.
