Some of you might have clicked on this post thinking the title referred to a human male’s private parts. Sorry to disappoint you, but the post is about a rooster.
While making a road stop in the Costa Rican jungle we encountered this rather attractive rooster. It was a large bird, with a definite “attitude” about him. After sizing us up, he just strutted away down the side of the road.
My wife likes chickens (we own more than a dozen) and is pretty astute about the different breeds. She recognized it as a Brahma, an old breed known for its egg-laying and meat qualities. The breed originated in Asia and was introduced into the west in the 1850s where it was popular and well-received. Newer breeds have largely replaced Brahmas, but because Brahmas are generally friendly birds, you’ll still see them around from time to time.
