Helium Time Columns, Amarillo, Texas

This huge monument is six stories of stainless steel and was erected in 1968. It was designed for the 100th anniversary of the discovery of helium. One interesting note about the monument, is that it was lifted by helicopter to the site at Don Harrington Discovery Center in Amarillo, Texas.

It holds four time capsules columns which were welded together and are meant to establish a rounded example of the time period. The columns apparently hold exceptional books, artifacts and documents that will tell future generations what life was like in the year 1968.

Helium Monumnet 3My husband and I both thought it was quite interesting and enjoyed checking it out and reading the plaques after leaving the Discovery Center. Definitely worth a visit when in the area.
