We’re now well into the Independence Day travel rush, which the Transportation Safety Administration says covers June 29 to July 5, and record numbers are in the works, according to TSA, with yesterday predicted as the busiest.
TSA’s advance estimate for the Friday crowd was 2.82 million, and 17.7 million for the seven day period. Those figures would beat the 2.79 million record for Independence Day travel set on July 7, 2019, as well as the overall single-day record of 2.8 million set two weeks ago on June 16.
The agency’s administrator says that new hiring and better pay scales as well as new equipment should keep the crowds moving, however, unlike problems last summer as travel was reviving. He says he expects TSA will be able to meet its standard of no more than 30 minutes in regular security lanes and 10 minutes in PreCheck lines.
