Kensington Palace was the birthplace and childhood home of Queen Victoria. It was in this palace in 1837 that news of her accession to queen was brought to the young Victoria by the Lord Chamberlain and the Archbishop of Canterbury. Shortly thereafter, Victoria moved to Buckingham Palace and never again stayed at Kensington Palace. This statue in front of Kensington is reminder of the building’s importance in the Queen’s life.
Today Kensington Palace contains the offices and London residence of The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. Portions of Kensington Palace are open to the public, although I’ve never been inside.

Near the Palace in Hyde Park is this interesting statue of Achilles.
