A Barcelona shop that’s been selling high-class delicacies to locals and visitors since the 1890s now has a sign in the window announcing that it will cost €5 to come in, look around and take pictures. No fee if you buy, though.
Queviures Murria, whose windows feature Art Nouveau-era advertisements for wines, liqueurs and more, says it really doesn’t want the fees; it wants people to leave room for the customers and sales staff to work.
Store manager Toni Merino told local TV that since the sign went up, most tourists limit themselves to looking in through the windows. “It doesn’t really earn us extra money, but it works,” he added, saying “We have not charged €5 to anyone, because this is not the objective.”
