Slack Plaza Sculptures, Charleston, West Virginia

My husband and I were in Charleston, West Virginia for a few days and saw these statures outside of Slack Plaza in downtown. They are 16 feet tall and were created by artist James Simon.  The pieces consist of a banjo player, a fiddle player, and a red dog named “Ruth”.

According to Simon, they are created in clay first, then cast in cement on site. He says, “It’s a pretty complex, long process that takes about four months per sculpture.” They are a great feature of Slack Plaza and we enjoyed seeing them while in the area.
