Small Hotel Chain Focuses on the Environment

Who hasn’t dreamed of a European adventure, including romantic Paris? If you are fortunate enough to spend several days there, you’ll want to choose a hotel by location, personality, and eco-responsibility.

One hotel family, B. Signature-Paris, includes Hôtel Montalembert and Hôtel Bel Ami, both located on the Left Bank, and Hôtel Vernet, Hôtel de Sers, and Hôtel Edouard 7 on the Right Bank. This small boutique hotel family is known for their exceptional service and international clientele.

My particular interest is their environmental responsibilities including sorting and managing waste, water, and energy. They no longer utilize paper documents, bottles, cups, or plastic cutlery in their establishments. They only print the strictly necessary documents and use recycled paper and ink cartridges.

They have added thermal insulation in each hotel to minimize energy consumption without affecting guests during their stay. They also control the room’s air conditioning, so they never go below 70 degrees.

Restaurant On The Rocks - Manapany St Barths (1)

This small hotel group also has two luxury resort properties: Domaine de la Bretesche in Brittany and Hôtel Manapany in St Barts.

At the Hotel Manapany, they created a 5-star eco-lodge when they rebuilt the hotel after purchase in 2016. Natural materials, solar panels, LED lighting, electric cars, and vans with individual charging stations near each room have been designed to limit energy usage.

Reducing their carbon footprint is vital for the environment and positively impacts the local economy. For example, Domaine de la Bretesche has a vegetable garden that they’ve developed to grow products for their restaurants without pesticides or fertilizers.

Hotel Manapany also only uses local, freshly caught seafood on its menus and fruits and vegetables grown on the property. The spa is organic, utilizing only Dr. Hauschka’s products and treatments.

Hotel Manapany, Domaine de la Bretesche, Hotel Bel Ami, Hotel Vernet, and Hotel Montalembert have all earned the Green Key—the leading standard for excellence in environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry.
