The direct ferry route that has linked Ireland and Spain since last November has proven so popular that Brittany Ferries is adding two more ships to the one that has been operating so far.
“The ship has proved a hit with Irish customers, and so far this year reservations are up by around 100pc compared to the previous vessel,” Brittany said. The ‘cruise ferry’ Salamanca, which carries a bit over a thousand passengers in 321 cabins, as well as passengers’ cars and pets, has been booked up through the summer.
For 2024, Salamanca will be joined by Santona and Galicia, two ships launched in the past two to four years. The 30-hour voyage provides French and Spanish dining options, duty-free shopping, entertainment and even, on occasion, whale- and dolphin watching.
