Los Angeles International Airport has gone dry, or at least bottle-free, with a ban on single-use water bottles at the airport’s shops, restaurants and vending machines as part of an effort to be carbon-neutral by 2050.
Part of LA’s ‘Green New Deal,’ the restriction was announced two years ago to give time for adjustment and sell-off, and went into effect on August 1st. It’s the second major airport to ban the plastic, following San Francisco two years ago. Bottles served on planes are exempt.
As part of the preparations, the airport has installed more fountains and hydration stations, set up to make it easier to get a drink or to fill a re-usable bottle. For those who come without bottles, there are bottles on sale in airport shops.
